KAMPAR: UTAR 2nd Karaoke Competition, a breathtaking event which was organized by the students of Music Club which was held on 26th of March.

The event started off with an audition held from 24th January till 28th January in which they managed to discover twenty outstanding voices.

The semi-final was held on 19th February after they were given two weeks to prepare. Ten finalists were then selected to continue their journeys to the grand finale of the competition.

The audiences watched the event live, which was held in Heritage Hall of UTAR Perak Campus on the 26th of March, enjoyed the three rounds finale which was done extravagantly.

It began with the ten contestants performing for their fans. In the first round, they all had their choice to perform their personal best songs. During the second round, they were required to perform love songs and from the two rounds five finalists were chosen.

The three judges were invited for the night. They were Soong Hoong Cheng, a lecturer from UTAR who is also a songwriter and a composer; Fan Ya Fu, a local singer who is also a song writer, composer and producer; and Christopher Lay, a director of I-dreams Talent Academy who is also a producer and appeared as a judge for Astro Talent Quest, Project Superstar and Ultimate Power Group.

Five finalists that were chosen in the second round were Chew Shernhui, Low Cheon Ying, Cheong Hui Ting, Noel Tan Xin Ngoh and Ooi Wen Lih.

The last round required the contestants to sing an upbeat song. This round was the most fascinating one as the audience were elevated and soaring while dancing to the song sung by the five finalists.

Before announcing the winners, a performance by fellow students of the Dance Club and the past year winner of the previous karaoke competition was very interesting and delightful as well.

There were also special appearances by the contestant of a famous Taiwan    singing competition show called ‘One Million Star’, Tan Bee Keow and also another Malaysian singer, Yean.

The judges had to make the most difficult choice when deciding the winner after listening to the upbeat songs sung by the five finalists.

After a heartfelt decision, the judges finally made the call and announced the three main winners of the night and also the Most Popular Award which was received by Low Cheon Ying because he got the most votes via short message service (SMS).

The 2nd runner up title goes to Noel Tan Xin Ngoh. When she was asked how she felt, she expressed, “I am happy with my achievement.” Cheong Hui Ting took the 1st runner up title and said, “I was shocked by the results but I am happy at the same time.”

Last but not least, Chew ShernHui grabbed the very first prize which was worth RM5500. He was very happy and speechless. He was then invited to sing his song again on the stage    before the event was officially ended.
